Quiz Night - Saturday 5th March
2005 |
Yet another triumph for
Foundation Chairman, Derek Welton! Held at Mountnessing Hall, with Quizmaster
Ron Saunders and his assistant, Thelma, a record number of contestants vied
with each other, table by table for the promised 1st prize of a Ferrari; it
was, of course, a model car. With help again from our Ladies [and Ian] five
fishes were miraculously spread amongst the throng. Everyone enjoyed their
evening, but the winner on the night was Rotary International Foundation with
£1,000 being raised for Foundation Charities. |

St. Valentine's Night - Saturday 12th February
2005 |
Mike Allen, International
Chairman, obtained a real result with his 'St. Valentine's Night' Dance. Held
in Margaretting Hall, a cozy venue to snuggle up with your Valentine, no mercy
was shown as "The Melting Pot" (Blue Mink) put us through a variety
of numbers, accompanied by a superb singer. With food prepared by our Ladies
[ham & cheese by Ian], it was an excellent evening - resulting in
£1000 being raised for RI's Mercy Ships Project. |

This year we are indebted to The
Anglo European School and the Ingatestone County Infants School for filling a
total of 265 shoeboxes.
In the past 2 years we have forwarded 496 filled shoeboxes to Eastern Europe -
with some very colourfully decorated. |

Race Night - 17th April 2004 |
Our thanks to all who
supported the 'race night' held in Ingatestone & Fryerning Community
Centre. Winning owners took home a bottle of champagne and a rosette. Many won
more than they invested, but the winner on the night was Rotary International
charities with total of £750 being raised.
A Rotary Shelter box (cost £460 ) will be purchased for use in disasters
worldwide. The box contains a large sleeping tent, sleeping bags, tools, light
- warmth and shelter for 10 people. The balance will be used for other
International charities. |

Bob Wilson Evening - 18th March
2004 |
Bob Wilson, the famous
Arsenal Football club goalkeeper and renowned T.V. presenter, together with his
wife, Megs, were our guests of honour and speakers at Stock Brook Country
Club.
WRINGS, our Rotary wives, had held a Musical evening in October 2003 at
Ingatestone Hall and, with help from Barclays Bank, raised £2,500.00 for
the Willow Foundation.
This charity, which gives a special day out or treat for very seriously ill
young people between 18 years & 40 years, was set up by Bob & Megs
Wilson following the tragic death of their thirty year old daughter through a
rare cancer.
The evening started with a dinner in the Rosewood Suite which had been bedecked
with Arsenal coloured floral decorations by Marion & Sally.
After dinner, Bob gave an exciting and funfilled rundown of his footballing
career and went on to give a very interesting insight to the 'pleasures' of
'live' T.V. Sports presentations.
Megs & Bob then spoke about their daughter's tragic death and the aims of
the Willow Foundation. Peter Smart, a long standing friend of the Wilsons,
kindly gave a vote of thanks. A raffle was held, with prizes from Bob Wilson,
Doddy's Fashion and Ingatestone Pet Shop, which raised £500.00 and a
cheque for £600.00 is being sent to the Willow Foundation |

Christmas Float Collection 2003
|
The snowman patrol and Santa's Sleigh
visited Margaretting, Mountnessing, Fryerning and Ingatestone as usual.
The generosity of people in the these villages ensured that our collections
this year raised £2302 ( including a donation of £250) for
local charities.
We must mention the extra help we received from Victoria Burman (pictured)and
our DG one evening.
Our thanks to you all. |

Sixties Night - 25th October
2003
80 Rotarians and their friends danced the night away to the music of the
Sixties. Held at Mountnessing Village Hall with music provided by Nigel Waymark
of South East Essex Disco Services, we danced away the years.
Click here to check-out the pictures Nigel took during the
evening! An excellent 'Ploughman's Supper' was prepared by Senga & Sally
and our thanks to those Ladies for providing some lovely sweets. The evening
raised sufficient profits to meet our club pledge of £650 to 'build' a
low-cost house in the Rotary
District 1240 Dream Village and to put aside £235 to the
Opportunity
International UK Micro Credit' charity. |
Musical Night
Rotarian Tony Wiley - Landlord of 'The Cricketers, Mill Green' held a
"Music Night" at his pub earlier this summer and generously donated
the monies raised to Rotary Foundation. £415.00 was raised and an
additional £150.00 was collected in the Rotary Barrel which Tony keeps on
his bar! |

Annual Charity Golf Day - 20th May
2003
We held our fifth Charity Golf Day at Benton Hall. This year it was local
charity CHARMS ***. who were
the recipients of the £3,800 raised on the day.
84 golfers took part in one round of Stableford, followed by evening meal and
the customary fund-raising events.
We considered ourselves extremely fortunate this year, not only with the
weather, but also, as in the previous two years, having the Fryerning
Foundation as our major sponsor. This is a local family charity trust set up by
Keith Brown of Fryerning. Many other people including most of the club members,
made up the remaining sponsorship by buying a hole for £50. |
|
First individual was Terry
Saines (42 points) - here being presented with his Trophy by Tim
Brown. There was a host of golfers chasing him and gaining 2nd and 3rd places on
'countback'. |
It was a similar
occurrence with the team event, at which point the organisers desparately
needed some golfing software!
The outcome was a remarkable victory for our own Brian Procter and Martin
Lister's team in third position on 'countback'.
The evening went very well with everybody joining in the spirit of things! Both
the customary raffle and '£1 per blob' contributed £675 towards the
grand total.
My thanks go to all our helpers, especially Peter Larcombe, Len Lister and
David Storrar. Len and Peter got their reward in the raffle, but interestingly
all David's prize contributions of hair shampoos, driers and straighteners were
won by bald golfers!
Can we have hair-restorer next year please, David ? by
Barry Turner

Ingatestone & Fryerning Horticultural Show -
July 2003
Ingatestone Rotarians again this year organised and ran the bar. The splendid
weather ensured a steady flow of thirsty customers for our ever obliging
Rotarians, who served beer, wine and soft drinks with smiles and splendid
aplomb. We were able to raise more money than on any previous occasion. |
|
Mountnessing Fete - 12th July 2003
|
Ingatestone Rotarians again manned
the BBQ. The sun ensured fantastic queues and for the first time we ran out of
bangers and burgers, thus making a useful contribution to the Fete's Funds.

Blood Pressure Day - 5th April
2003
In conjunction with the Stroke Association many clubs of R.I.B.I. found
themselves running a free Blood Pressure Day. We were proud to be among those
clubs that took part and provided a valuable service for local people.
We were very fortunate to have use of the Vestry of St. Edmund & St. Mary
Parish church - thanks to the generosity of the Revd. Patrick Sheering and the
P.C.C.
Many of the people who had their blood pressure taken wanted to make a donation
and £70was collected and donated to the church.
We were very fortunate to have the excellent services of Dr. Lacy and Dr.
Emond, as well as nurse Rogers and her daughter.
The event was held between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm and there was a steady stream
of people during that time. In all, about 70 members of the public had their
B.P. taken. Many others, it seems , have regular medical checks. Aren't we all
well trained! |

Jazz Dance - 1st March 2003
Held at Mountnessing Village Hall, this Jazz Dance was well supported by 100
jazz aficionados.
After their successful appearance last year, the Downhome Jazz Band was booked
for a repeat performance. The hall resounded with their popular brand of music
and the floor was full of jiving couples.
Andrew enjoyed his Birthday along with 31 guests; Sally had made him a cake, so
we all sang while he blew out his candles.
Thanks to all the ladies for the Chilli Con Carne & Salad and their hard
work - an enjoyable International fundraising evening which generated such
handsome profits. Over £1350 was presented to 'Hope & Homes
for Children' |

Foundation Quiz Night - 14th February
2003 |
Despite Derek's worries
and sleepless nights, the evening was a great success.85 people turned up to
the Mountnessing Village Hall to test their IQ in this great battle of wits. The
evening raised £1200 gross and netted £653 for Rotary
Foundation charities, delighting Del and thereby allowing him peaceful
nights round until February next year. |

Barn Dance & Ceilidh - 15th November
2002
Neil - our International Chairman - must have been on a high at the sight of
all us Sassenachs cavorting about Mountnessing Village Hall to the sound of
Springer Surprise group.
For we proved to him emphatically that we English can shake a nifty hoof when
required and we did do all the right steps, but not necessarily in the right
order. |
|
The music, provided by three ladies
plus a young man, was a selection of foot tapping if occasionally
unrecognisable tunes. But almost without exception, the floor was crowded with
heaving sweating bodies for every foursome and moresome, reel and Highland
Fling. The damage to coronary systems and limb joints must be incalculable.
|
A vote of thanks must be extended to Senga and Sally who worked so hard
preparing the excellent 'Ploughmans'. The food was supplied free of charge by
Ian. All the hard work and generosity of numerous people resulted in
£550going to 'Water Aid' and £167 from the
raffle being used to purchase more shoeboxes. A great evening enjoyed by
everyone. by Mike Farley
