| The Rotary Club of Ingatestone held
their 10th Annual Charity Golf Day at The Essex Golf and Country Club, Earls
Colne on Tuesday May 15th. This year it was the Broomfield Stroke Unit,
Break and Harvest Trust Charities who were the recipients of the
£6,200 raised on the day.
Strokes are the leading cause of disability in the UK, and the third most
common cause of death, after cancer and heart disease. Monitoring patients in
the first 72 hours are vital for survival and recovery. The objective of our
golf day was to raise a minimum of £5000 to help the Broomfield
Stroke Unit purchase six portable machines that will give continuous 24hr
monitoring in those crucial first hours.
This year we considered ourselves extremely lucky, as in the previous five
years, to have Fryerning Foundation as our major sponsor.
Fryerning Foundation has been an enthusiastic sponsor and supporter of the
Charity Golf Day and this year we are also donating to two childrens charities
which the Foundation support. These are Break and Harvest Trust.
Amongst other things, both these charities provide holidays for children with
special needs (Break) and from severely disadvantaged circumstances (Harvest
Trust).
96 golfers took part in one round of Stableford , followed by evening meal
and the customary fund raising events, including 'guess the score'. The 1st 80
scorecards cumulative total was 2155. For nearest guesses, Dave Rose &
Dennis Clark each won a valuable hamper donated by Hepburns of Shenfield.
| Major thanks go to Sue and Robert of
Mercedes-Benz of Colchester - Lancaster Group - who gave
all the golfers a chance of winning a £26,000 Mercedes-Benz in a
Hole-in-One competition. All golfers playing the Par 3 7th hole were witnessed
for insurance purposes, but sadly nobody managed a Hole-in-One [ nor indeed a
birdie] on this hole! It was great fun. |
