| The Rotary Club of Ingatestone held
their 9th Annual Charity Golf Day at The Essex Golf and Country Club, Earls
Colne on Tuesday May 16th. This year it was the New Farleigh Hospice at
Broomfield who were the recipients of the £5500 raised on the day.
The FARLEIGH HOSPICE has been providing care to thousands of people with
cancer and life limiting illnesses across mid-Essex service for many years. It
is only through the generosity of the people of Essex that they are able to
continue to provide this essential service. Over the last year the Hospice has
cared for nearly 3000 people! With running costs now at £7000 per day,
charitable support is invaluable £1 million is still required to furnish
and equip the hospice to the very high standards that the patients deserve.
The objective of our golf day was to raise a minimum of £5000,
which will buy a specialist pain relieving bed and air flow mattress. All of
this is desperately needed as more than 1 in 3 of our local community will be
affected by cancer at some point in their lives
One hundred golfers took part in one round of Stableford , followed by
evening meal and the customary fund raising events, including 'guess the
score', The prize was a weekend for two golfers in Arras. This was donated by
Doug Fisher of Leisure Link Golf Holidays,as was the Hole in one
prize. This was a £5000 trip for two to Myrtle Beach ,U.S.A.
Unfortunately, nobody won it!.
This year we considered ourselves extremely lucky as in the previous five
years, in having the Fryerning Foundation Trustas our major
sponsor. This is a local family charity trust set up by Keith Brown of
Fryerning. Many other people including most of the club members and local
businesses, made up the remaining sponsorship by buying a hole for £ 50 or
£100, and giving donations and prizes
First low handicap golfer was Graham Adams of the 'Barmy Army' team
with 43 points, and the high handicap winner was Paul Collier of the
'Vikings' team with 38 points .Graham and his 'Barmy Army' team members
,all hailing from Five Lakes club, ran away with the team prize!
