8th Annual Charity Golf Day 2005

The Rotary Club of Ingatestone held their 8th Annual Charity Golf Day at Benton Hall Golf Club, Witham, on Tuesday 17th May. This year it was the Essex Air Ambulance who were the recipients of the £5200 raised on the day. Interestingly, after road traffic accidents, it is injuries, illnesses and accidents on the golf course that make more demands of the Ambulance Service than any other type of accident! We were thankful that we had no need for their services!

One hundred golfers took part in one round of Stableford, followed by evening meal and the customary fund raising events, including 'Guess the Score'. The prize was a weekend for two golfers in Belgium. This was kindly donated by Doug Fisher of Leisure Link Golf Holidays.

This year we considered ourselves extremely fortunate, not only with the weather, but also as in the previous four years, having The Fryerning Foundation as our major sponsor. This a local family Charitable Trust set up by Keith Brown of Fryerning.

The evening went very well with everybody joining in the 'spirit of things! Both the customary raffle and 'Guess the Score' contributed £1085 towards the grand total.

Many other people, including most of the Rotary Club members and local businesses, made up the remaining sponsorship by buying a hole for £50 and giving donations and prizes.

First Individual was Mike Manning from the Forresters Golf Club (41 points) and a host of golfers chasing him and gaining 2nd and 3rd places on 'countback'.
