Twin Club - Vriezenveen, Netherlands
During 1978 (Ingatestone Rotary Club's third year) a European Contact club was
sought. In February 1979, Len Lister (President) and Barry Turner
(International Chairman) and their wives visited Vriezenveen in East Holland.
Both clubs were so delighted with the 'match ' that we have enjoyed 24 years of
exchange and friendship as contact clubs. The Rotary Club of Vriezenveen formed
in 1970 and has 35-40 members, drawn from the villages of Vriezenveen, Wierden
and Vroomshoop. Each alternate year, we visit our friends in Holland and
every other year the Ingatestone members will host their Dutch friends for one
weekend in Essex. Arrangements are made by the International Committee. During
these weekends the events vary greatly in cultural and social activities, but
always time is allowed for the visitors to enjoy the homes and company of their
hosts. As a result, long term friendships have been formed and charitable
projects shared.
New members are always encouraged to participate in these exchanges.
