Monday 12th December 2011 Turkey Trot
After a cold but bright morning Turkey Trot, the evening saw 134 members and guests squeezed into the Baronial Hall for our now traditional Christmas Dinner.
As usual, a sumptuous feast was provided by Flynn, ably abetted by Kim, and Sam. After the meal the prizes were distributed to the lucky winners, the overall winner being David Neill with an excellent 38 points and the longest drive to boot.
Ron Went then gave an address expounding the misdemeanours of the Abbotsley Four in which it was revealed that one of the condemned, the handicap secretary no less, was that very evening bitterly complaining that somebody had appropriated his after dinner chocolate !
The evening concluded with the post dinner entertainment featuring renditions from 'Bogey 6' in which the curse of slow play was examined and an excellent delivery from Senga Macalister on the rigours of Christmas shopping.
After some rousing renditions of Christmas songs we all took our leave, tired but happy.

Monday 13th December 2010 Turkey Trot
Regrettably the weather put paid to this year's Turkey Trot, but nothing daunted, 134 members and guests were shoe horned into the Baronial Hall for the Christmas Dinner. As usual, Kim and Flynn turned up trumps with the food and the arrangements and Jason was his usual generous self in putting wine on the 14 tables. With no prizewinners the turkeys and sundry goodies were disposed of by a mini-raffle which raised £134 for David's charity. After the prizegiving the evening was wound up by the, now customary, cabaret, devised, created and performed by the usual suspects, aided and abetted this year by our own King of the keyboard, Alan King, who heretofore has been hiding his light under a bushel.

Thursday 25th November 2010 Franklin's Fairground Fun Night
Fun, frolic and feasting were the orders of the night for thirty odd(!) entrants at the fantastic Franklin Fairground Fun Night. Superbly organised as always by John and Jan the event was advertised as ' No Skill Required ' and none was displayed, not even by the eventual winners, new Club Captain, Neville Partridge and his playing partner, Betty Elmes. Nevertheless, a good time was had by all and a thumping £300 was raised to launch David's charity, The Farleigh Hospice

Wednesday 27th October 2010 Quiz Night
Another really enjoyable evening organised superbly by Mike Stammers, ably assisted by Jan Stammers and Doreen Brown. My grateful thanks to all of them and to Neville for his eloquent presentation of ' reverse ' bingo. Jason kindly provided each table with wine and the meal served by the catering staff was appreciated by the 139 participants of the quiz. Overall the evening raised a total net profit of £742-92 which will be shared equally between the Senior Captain' s charity ' Haven Hospice' and the Lady Captain' s charity 'The Essex Air Ambulance Service.' This was the last fund raising event for my charity and through the most generous efforts of the Senior Section we have raised approximately £3750 over the year. I would like to thank all of you for your generosity and particularly like to thank Mike Stammers and John Franklin for their individual efforts

Wednesday 14th April 2010 Quiz Night
Thank you to everyone who supported the Quiz Night on April 14th. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Thanks also to all the staff who provided us with tasty food and efficient organisation and to Jason who kindly supplied the table wine so that those who were unable to answer the questions could get quietly smashed!

A huge thank you to Mike and Jan Stammers and Doreen Brown for the time and effort that they put into organising such an excellent evening. Mike, despite a nasty chest cold and a misbehaving microphone, guided us effortlessly through the evening. Thanks also to Neville who interrupted the proceedings to play his 'reverse bingo' which was a great success. Well, it was for one person anyway!

The Lady Captain's Charity and the Seniors Captain's Charity benefitted to the tune of £355 each. This included £349 raised by Anne and the ladies with their raffle.

I am sure you will all be keen to know the result of the quiz. My table-no.11-actually won and, if I seemed somewhat exuberant on hearing the result, it was because I have never been on a winning quiz team before. My input was minimal, but the rest of the team were very good, with Pete Smith being a veritable mine of information.

Commiserations to David Neill's team who just failed to record a hat-trick of wins. Shame!! Also, well done to Steve Helm's team for managing to get 24 people around those small tables!

Thanks to David Laybourn for officiating the prizegiving in such an eloquent manner.

The Glee Club of Mike Stammers, Neville Partridge, Gordon Eley, Brian Thomas, Alan Henderson and Richard Cleary could have won X Factor and it was good to discover that Young Albert had survived-- well done Neville. Efion and Mac provided the intellectual slot of the evening and Brian Thomas led everybody in a rousing finale of carole singing.

After all expenses were paid the raffle made £490 and was boosted by an extremely generous donation from the Manchester United Fan Club! He wanted to remain anonymous.

Wed. 28th October 2009 Quiz Night - An even greater number of people attended and a more fantastic amount raised for the two charities. The final figure for the quiz was £645 split between the two charities. The catering staff did a great job in feeding and watering the 146 people who were shoe horned into the Baronial Hall and the winning table was that of the present captain, David Neill, and his immediate predecessor, Jack Skedd. Thanks to Mike Stammers for some very searching questions(!) and to Jason Fox for putting wine on our tables.

Monday 15th December 2008 Turkey Trot Xmas Dinner
Yet another great Turkey Trot Xmas Dinner with thanks once again to Jason Fox for putting the wine on the tables. Everyone enjoyed the evening which included entertainment from Bogey 6, Steve and The Helmets, The Hornythornolgist and recitations very professionally done by Neville and Steve. Indeed all the entertainers were very professional and had put in a lot of time rehearsing to perfect their acts. Finally, thankyou to Mike Stammers who planned and coordinated the whole evening which was such a success. - David Neill.

Wed 29th October 2008 Quiz Night
The quiz night attracted a particularly dense crowd of 116 intellectuals and raised a total of £542 to be split between David's and Theresa's charities. Invaluable was the help from Janet and Doreen, the lap top and the reverse bingo organised by Neville.
The result was extremely close with the three top tables being separated by a mere 3 points, but the winner, retaining the title it won in March, was the table of Tim Anspack.
Jason kindly donated wine to each table and the sausage and mash went down a treat.

  28th March 2008 Quiz Night
We had 101 intellectuals in attendance, questions were remarkably easy and marking greatly assisted by using a laptop. Jason kindly donated wine to every table and put £200 behind the bar. Total raised was £515-60 split between Jack's and Sue Anderson's charities; Jack & Sue thanked all who supported the night. Once again, the night was very successfully run by Mike Stammers and his assistants.

10th Dec 2007 Christmas Dinner & Turkey Trot Prizegiving in the Baronial Hall
Another very successful evening of good food, company and "homespun" entertainment. This year's Programme of Music featured 'The Double Bogeys'. We were hanging on every word - not to mention chord! What would we do without the word skills and choreography of our own Mike Stammers. One must also make mention of "Our Albert & the Lion" - a magnificient rendering by Nev. P and 'The Sick Note' by Brian......Another great night!

Another successful evening - courtesy of John & Janet Franklin - at Hatfield Peverel Short Mat Bowls Club. Some 'good woods' were bowled, although many of us still need to get the hang of the bias!   Monday 11th December 2006 Turkey Trot Dinner and Entertainment
Another very successful evening of good food, company and "homespun" entertainment. This year's programme was inspired with the surprise visit of the Juniors' Choristers, who clearly enjoyed their night, as much as we enjoyed listening to them. Once again we were hanging on every word of the 'Seniors Choir'. They both did really well. But what would we do without the word skills and choreography of our own Mike Stammers. Another great night!

Monday 12th December 2005 Turkey Trot Dinner and Entertainment
Another very successful evening of good food, company and "homespun" entertainment. The golf almost comes a second to the sparkling cabaret. Who will forget the silky skills of Par 5 and the bravery of the Committee choir - by-the-way were all those photos genuine!?!? What would we do without the skills and encouragement of Mike Stammers in the words dept and Brian Thomas in the music dept.
