District Conference: Oct.
2002
It was all there at the District Conference, held at Stratford-on-Avon. Even
the guest speakers were highly entertaining and informative.
We did have some frolics on Fancy Dress Night! There we were - all trying on
our beautiful dresses and togas 'what Georgina made'. We looked supurb, with
M.M.M. as Caesar, Georgy as Cleopatra and Andrew as Mark Anthony or was it
Brutus? The rest of us were noblemen (of course) and our concubines (of
course).
Highlight of the Saturday conference was Bob Wilson and his
wife's presentation on their Willow Foundation Charity, which provides
special events for teenagers and young adults with terminal disease. On Sunday
morning David Bellamy was the big attraction. So, an extremely enjoyable
Fellowship weekend. |

"Waverley" Trip: 6th
Sept. 2002
25 Rotarians and family alighted the Waverley at Tilbury at 12.15. After a
major re-fit, the only sea-going paddle steamer in the world was ours for a few
hours! On a sunny day we steamed up the Thames, under the QE2 bridge, past
Fords, Greenwich, Thames Flood Barrier, Millennium Dome and Canary Wharf.
Finally, after the Thames twists and turns we arrived at Tower Bridge. What
excitement as the bridge was opened and we sailed under it and into the Pool of
London. Views of HMS Belfast and the City skyline from a totally different
perpective. After 20 minutes, the bridge was re-opened for us and we returned
down river to Tilbury for 4.30 pm. Everyone on board had really enjoyed the
afternoon. |

Summer BBQ: 18th August
2002
Held once again at The Coach House, Little Hyde Lane with thanks to Alan &
Sally and John & Margaret.
President Malcolm declared it a roaring success as did those who attended, in
particular it was thought the marquee kept everyone together in a more social
group.
The day was not without its casualties. The egg and spoon races in particular
appeared to be the most lethal. Several ladies required knees and other parts
of their anatomy rubbed. Baz was extremely proud to have 'scored twice' during
a game of Rounders. |
